Class 5 has eight wonderful pupils with a wide range of individual needs. Each one of us has an individualized programme which reflects our educational needs, physical needs, interests and strengths. We enjoy different approaches to learning, including sensory stories and practical tasks and use many forms of communication including signing, PECS and eye-gaze technology .
We make use of all the rooms in school as well as our classroom base. Jordan particularly likes Intensive Interaction in the soft play room. Sanjay likes the bubble tube in the sensory room. Jack and Dillon regularly use both the physiotherapy room and hydrotherapy pool. Ciaran enjoys preparing and cooking a hot dinner in the food technology room. Jade loves iPad Club in PATCH during Thursday lunchtime! Adam is interested in the Opti-beam in the hall. Charlie enjoys playing football in the playground and dance and badminton breakfast clubs in the hall. As well as working hard we are also learning ways of relaxing on our own and enjoying time with others.
We are becoming more aware of the world around us and trying to make sense of it all. We use the local facilities in Andover to develop our physical, social and independence skills; the Leisure Centre for multi-skills sports sessions, swimming and Salto Gym Club. It is important that we apply our number and English skills practically in the community, building on work in class, including shopping, choosing a drink and paying for it in a café. We are lucky to be supported by adults who know us well and give us just the right amount of support we need.
Some of us enjoy joining peers in class 6 for lessons, activities and community work and we are working towards achieving ASDAN ‘Transition Challenge’. Jade has started to join her peers at the F.E. Centre on Monday afternoon to work towards achieving an Asdan module.
Our topic for the Summer term is The Wild West!.
